labor

Work of any type for organizations or individuals, typically done for a wage or some other form of compensation.

In business terms, 'labor' is typically a reference to the broader labor market, or the exchange between human labor and wages paid by businesses in a given economy. Labor is one of the most significant signals of overall economic strength and often a lagging signal of consumer spending health.

The world's major economies all release data on domestic labor markets on a regular basis. Financial markets often scrutinize these data releases for overall trends and predictions of current and future economic strength. As a result, assets (currency pairs, shares and futures contracts) will usually experience above-average volatility in the moments that surround the releases of these labor market reports.
