IRS

The IRS is responsible for the collection, enforcement and to a degree the interpretation of federal tax obligations, operating under the authority of the US Department of the Treasury. The IRS is primarily tasked with collecting individual and corporate taxes, but is also mandated in enforcing federal gift, excise and estate taxes.


Founded in 1862, the IRS is headquartered in Washington DC, and processes more than a hundred million tax returns each year, overseeing the collections of trillions in of dollars in tax revenue.
