current yield

In terms of investment returns, current yield divides the yearly income (dividends payments or interest from bonds) by the market price of financial corporations.

Current Yield =
Dividend Payment or Interest from Bonds

Current Market Price

Example,

5.00 (Yearly Interest From Bonds)
= the Current Yield, or .05 or 5 %
100 Bond at Par Value

With bonds, the current yield reflects the return an investor would expect if they where to hold the bond for a year. But currency yield is not an accurate gauge of the value of a debt or equity investment, since such securities fluctuate for numerous market factors.
