Annual Percentage Yield

The effective annual rate of return including the effect of compounding interest.

Abbreviated 'APY.' APY for an interest-bearing deposit account, such as a savings account, is calculated as one plus the periodic rate (a decimal) raised to the number of periods in a year. The percentage number produced in this calculation assumes that the funds spend a 365-day duration in the investment vehicle. Like APR, the APY is useful as a standardized rate.
